Grade 8 Registration
8th grade students will have 6 classes each day and a flex period.
What courses will students take?
Each day students will have a class in:
- Math
- Science
- Language Arts
- Social Studies
Every other day students will have Physical Education and Health.
Students will fill out their schedule with their fine arts and elective course choices.
What choices in courses will students have?
Fine Arts Credit
During middle school a student MUST take 2 courses that meet standards in TWO different fine arts areas. All fine arts courses meet every other day. Courses meet for either a semester (half the year) or a full year. Regardless of the length of the course, students must take two courses.
New for 2026-2027 registration, students will pick a pair of fine arts courses to satisfy the fine arts credit requirement. Courses are offered in 4 different fine arts areas: Music, Media Art, Visual Art and Theater.
Students continuing on in Band, Choir or Orchestra can choose one of the following pairs to meet the fine arts requirement. The pairs include a course in another arts area as well as an elective.
- Theater and Warrior Prep (elective)
- Theater and Medical Detectives (elective)
- Visual Arts and Warrior Prep (elective)
- Visual Arts and Piano (elective)
Students not continuing on in Band, Choir or Orchestra can choose one of the following pairs to meet the fine arts requirement.
- Visual Arts and Media Arts
- Theater and Visual Arts
- Piano and Media Arts
Elective Courses
Students will fill out their schedule with elective courses.
Students can chose to take Spanish beginning in grade 7. Spanish is a high school level course that is taken for high school credit. To learn more about what it means to take a high school course in middle school, see below.
All elective courses EXCEPT Spanish meet for just one semester. For 2026-2027 registration, students will pick a pair of semester elective courses, rather than individual course. This change will allow for better balancing of course rosters and to meet student requests.
Including fine arts options, a student needs a total of 3 pairs. The number of elective pairs depends on the choices made to meet the fine arts requirement.
- Students choosing to band, choir or orchestra will choose 1 elective pair.
- Students NOT choosing band, choir or orchestra will choose 2 elective pairs.
The registration worksheet will help students and families in making selections. Worksheets are linked below.
The following elective pairs are available to 7th grade students.
- Spanish B - must have taken Spanish A in 7th grade
- Individual Games/Partner Sports AND Warrior Prep
- Design and Modeling AND Medical Detectives
- Coding AND Medical Detectives
- Myths and Legends AND Warrior Prep
