          Friendly Hills Food Drive
Students at Friendly Hills Middle School conducted a schoolwide food collection to benefit Neighbors Inc., a
local non-profit, social-service agency that provides emergency assistance and supportive assistance to community members. The 8th grade AVID students who managed the food drive chose Neighbors Inc. as the recipient organization after researching what type of service project they wanted to run as well as which organization should receive the donations. Once the students selected a food drive, under the guidance of ESL teacher and AVID advisor Jennifer Ryan, the students also researched what it means for families when they do not have enough food. "I enjoyed watching the students go through the process of deciding what project to do," says Ryan. "And once they made their decision they were on it!"
